Olympic Gymnastics Scandal: Romanian Federation Forced to Defend Controversial Medal Decision.

Bucharest, Romania (Clarity Times) August 13, 2024 – The Paris Olympics may have concluded, but the controversy surrounding the gymnastics competition between the USA and Romania continues to make headlines. The Romanian Gymnastics Federation (RGF) has responded to recent international allegations regarding distributing bronze medals to gymnasts Jordan Chiles, Ana-Maria Bărbosu, and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea.

In a press release, the RGF shared key details to clarify the situation and underscore the fairness of their decision.

The RGF explained that the idea of awarding bronze medals to all three athletes was originally proposed by the Federation’s legal team and had the Federation’s full approval. The RGF leadership, through its representatives, took all necessary steps to reach an agreement. It was highlighted that certain conditions were suggested by the American side to finalize this arrangement, and the RGF fully complied with these conditions, which were acknowledged and appreciated by the American representatives.

During this process, the RGF received support from gymnastics legend Nadia Comăneci, who played a crucial role in seeking a fair resolution for all athletes involved. The Federation reiterated its commitment to resolving the dispute with respect and in a way that honors the gymnasts’ accomplishments.

The RGF also strongly appealed to the global gymnastics community to stop the ongoing attacks against gymnasts Jordan Chiles, Ana-Maria Bărbosu, Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, and Nadia Comăneci. The Federation stressed that at no point did it support the removal of any athlete’s medal.

This statement highlights the RGF’s dedication to ensuring a fair outcome, calling for respect and appreciation for all the athletes and parties involved.
