South Carolina Republican Senator Tim Scott has made history as the longest-serving Black senator in U.S. history and the first to chair a Senate standing committee. With the start of the 119th Congress, Scott now leads the influential Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, overseeing critical economic and housing policies.

“My goal is simple: make America work for Americans,” Scott said, emphasizing his commitment to expanding opportunities and addressing economic challenges in collaboration with President-elect Donald Trump.

Since his appointment in 2013, Scott has become a prominent voice on economic reform and conservative principles. As the sole Black Republican in the Senate, he stands alongside four Black Democratic senators, including newly sworn-in members Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland and Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware.

Scott’s leadership on the Banking Committee is expected to focus on financial reform, housing affordability, and urban development—key areas he views as essential for fostering nationwide opportunity. This achievement marks a significant step in diversifying American politics and advancing inclusive governance.
