Toronto, ON – A Delta Air Lines plane flipped upside down while attempting to land at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, injuring at least 17 people. The incident occurred amid harsh winter conditions, prompting an emergency response and a federal investigation.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Flight 4819 departed from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport carrying 80 people, including 76 passengers and four crew members. The airline later confirmed that the aircraft was operated by Endeavor Air, a regional subsidiary of Delta.

Deborah Flint, CEO of Toronto Pearson International Airport, praised the rapid response of emergency personnel, who arrived within minutes to evacuate passengers. Among the injured, a child and two adults sustained critical injuries, with the latter being airlifted to a trauma center. According to Peel Regional Paramedic Services, the remaining injuries were classified as minor to moderate.

Meteorologists reported that Toronto was experiencing strong winds of up to 37 mph, blowing snow, and sub-freezing temperatures at the time of the crash.

In response, Delta Air Lines canceled all remaining flights in and out of Pearson on Monday. CEO Ed Bastian expressed his condolences: “The entire Delta family is thinking of those affected by today’s incident.”

Canadian and U.S. aviation authorities, including the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), have launched a joint investigation into the crash. Two runways at Pearson Airport remain closed for the inquiry, leading to travel disruptions.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford acknowledged the swift emergency response and assured provincial authorities were ready to assist.
