Tabarre, Haiti: (ClarityTimes) – On November 18, 2024, Haiti commemorated the 221st anniversary of the Battle of Vertières, a defining moment in the country’s history. This year’s celebration, held in Tabarre, reflected on the bravery of the heroes who secured Haiti’s independence and explored how their legacy can inspire solutions to the nation’s challenges.
The President of the Presidential Transition Council (CPT), Leslie Voltaire, called for unity and resilience, urging Haitians to honor the spirit of Vertières by working together to rebuild the country. He emphasized that the lessons of courage and determination are vital for overcoming current crises.
As part of the commemoration, the government inaugurated the Vertières Base, a modern military training facility. Built to strengthen Haiti’s national security, the base will train 2,500 soldiers to address issues like gang control and restore stability. Voltaire highlighted the base as a key step toward creating a safer, more secure Haiti.
The event served as a reminder of the enduring power of unity. Leaders encouraged Haitians, including those in the diaspora, to contribute to the nation’s progress and reclaim its dignity.
The celebration of Vertières is more than history; it’s a call to action, reminding Haitians that the strength of their past can guide them toward a brighter future. Haiti will not perish.
