WASHINGTON, D.C. — A new 2025 Gallup poll reveals that Barack Obama remains the most liked living U.S. president, with a 59% favorability rating. The survey, conducted last month with 1,001 Americans, ranked the five living current and former presidents based on public opinion.
Obama led the poll, followed by George W. Bush at 52%. Donald Trump and Bill Clinton each received 48%, while Joe Biden had the lowest rating at 39%.
Gallup’s data shows that Obama’s popularity has remained strong since he left office in 2017, with his approval rating between 58% and 62%. Meanwhile, Trump’s favorability has increased from 36% when he left office to 48% today, marking his highest rating since 2020. In contrast, Biden’s approval has dropped significantly, from 59% after his 2021 inauguration to 39% in 2025.
Gallup notes that presidents often see their popularity rise after leaving office, as political tensions fade and their time in power is viewed differently. Obama has consistently ranked high, while Trump and Biden’s numbers continue to shift based on current events.
These findings highlight how public opinion changes, shaping how former presidents are remembered in history.
