Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

At just 16 years old, Gout Gout has already etched his name into Australian sprinting history with an incredible performance. In the 100m final at the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships, Gout clocked 10.17 seconds, breaking both the Australian and Oceania under-18 records. This makes him the sixth-fastest under-18 sprinter of all time.

While the official time was wind-assisted (+0.9m/s), his unofficial 10.04 seconds in the heat places him among the top juniors globally. This time compares to American sprint stars Erriyon Knighton and Puripol Boonson. Only a few under-18s have run faster, including Knighton, who holds a 9.99s time with a stronger wind.

Earlier this year, Gout also broke Peter Norman’s 56-year-old 200m Australian record with an outstanding 20.04 seconds. This achievement not only surpassed the 1968 record but also positioned Gout among the fastest sprinters in Australian history. His 200m time places him as the fourth-fastest Australian ever over that distance.

Gout’s rise in sprinting has been nothing short of spectacular. With a silver medal in the 200m at the World Under-20 Championships in August and now holding multiple national and regional records, Gout is fast becoming a household name in track and field. His next goals include training with top sprinter Noah Lyles and qualifying for the Tokyo World Championships.

His performances have already left a mark on the sprinting world, with fans and commentators predicting a bright future. Gout Gout is only just getting started, and the world of athletics is eagerly watching his next move.
